PARK CITY COCKTAIL CONTEST RETURNS OCT. 12TH

August 23, 2012 | Ginger Ries

Calling All LOCAL Bartenders:

THIS twice-yearly event has raised more than $6,000 for a local health clinic.

The Park City Area Restaurant Association in conjunction with Young’s Market Company ~ Spirits Portfolio are gearing up to host the fall edition of the semiannual “Park City Cocktail Contest” fundraiser for the People’s Health Clinic on Friday, Oct. 12. Sixteen of the area’s best mixologists will compete at the Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley to concoct a drink that will be crowned Park City’s “Signature Cocktail” for fall and winter 2012-2013.

“We’re looking for a tasty cocktail that reflects the spirit of Park City’s marquee fall and winter seasons,” PCARA executive director Ginger Ries said. “Whether you’re a professional bartender or an amateur enthusiast, we invite you to enter the competition.”

To participate bartenders must represent a Summit County establishment that is a PCARA member. Contest entry is free and entries must be received no later than Wednesday, October 3rd. Download Entry form.

A panel of judges will select the winner, evaluating each drink based on presentation, taste and appearance. The judges include Mary Malouf (food editor, Salt Lake Magazine), Ted Scheffler (food editor, City Weekly), Andy Bernhard, publisher of The Park Record to name a few.

The winning mixologist will receive a $100 cash prize, a trophy and, in a town with close to 30 bars, serious bragging rights. The drink will also be made available for purchase after the event, and it will appear on drink menus throughout Park City during the fall and winter. September Bickmore and Bonnie Ulmer of Deer Valley Grocery-Cafe, won the PCARA’s most recent cocktail contest — its spring and summer cocktail competition — on April 4th with their original drink, “Flower & Pine,” a sunset-red libation that combines Beefeater Gin, St. Germaine Liqueur, Zirbenz Stone Pine Liqueur and Peychaurd’s Bitters.

The fall and winter contest kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and is open to anyone aged 21 and older. Admission costs $10, which includes snacks and the chance to vote for the “People’s Choice” cocktail. All proceeds will go toward the People’s Health Clinic, a non-profit health clinic for uninsured individuals and families in Utah’s Summit and Wasatch counties. To date, PCARA cocktail contests have raised more than $6,000 for the clinic.  In addition, by booking lodging directly through Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley, they will also make a 10% donation to the People’s Health Clinic.

“It’s a fun way to support an important community group, as well as our local businesses,” said Russ Olsen, CEO of Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley. “On Oct. 12 join us at Stein Eriksen Lodge for a taste of the fall and winter to come.”
